What if IKEA stopped making furniture and just made building blocks instead?

Why?

In this speculative design, scenario society has adopted a more utilitarian view on objects. By 2030 IKEA aims to be fully circular. Having different production lines for each product is energetically wasteful.

How?

To achieve this goal, the product assortment is reduced to just the essential building blocks. Making more with less. Furniture is easily upgraded, transformed, fixed, and finally recycled.

Note: the original 2d animation and voice-over video were made by VegasDevine. You can find it on YouTube under "Ikea circular economy". I’ve just added the 3D animations and edited the video to look like the announcement of a new collection.
